(TDTU) - On December 17 and 18, 2025, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) became a focal point of sustainable development as it cooperated with the German International Cooperation Organization (GIZ) to successfully organize an intensive training workshop on the UI GreenMetric criteria framework. The event not only affirmed the professional capacity of the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT) but also demonstrated TDTU’s social responsibility in leading the greening trend in education.

From a green symbol to the mission of spreading knowledge
In the context of global climate change, building a green campus model is no longer an option but an inevitable trend. With extensive experience and a high ranking on international sustainability league tables, TDTU was trusted by GIZ (Germany) and selected as a strategic partner to transfer experience to vocational education and training (VET) institutions in Vietnam.
In her opening remarks, Ms. Vu Thi Tu Anh - Deputy Director General of the Department of Vocational Education and Continuing Education (Ministry of Education and Training) highly appreciated TDTU’s pioneering role in applying international standards to university governance, while emphasizing the importance of the training course for leaders and key staff members.

The professional imprint of CITT and TDTU experts
As the organizing and implementing unit, the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT) under TDTU designed a rigorous training program that closely integrated academic theory with hands-on practical experience.

Beyond introducing the six core criteria groups of UI GreenMetric, TDTU experts directly provided hands-on guidance, instructing participants on systematic processes for data collection, processing, and evidence documentation. Their in-depth understanding of database management systems and practical experience gained from TDTU’s own green transformation helped participating institutions resolve many bottlenecks in governance and implementation.
Practical experience: When the TDTU campus becomes an “open classroom”
A distinctive highlight of the program was the practical sessions conducted right on TDTU’s lush green campus. Instead of remaining in the conference room, delegates—including Rectors, Vice Rectors, and focal-point staff from vocational institutions—directly toured, observed, and practiced assessing facility conditions according to international standards.

From wastewater treatment systems and renewable energy to landscape spaces, every corner of TDTU became a vivid, real-life illustration of the lessons. Through the “World Café” group discussion method and data benchmarking, participants were able to develop action plans tailored to the specific characteristics of their own institutions.

Commitment to accompanying a sustainable education system
After two intensive and effective days of training, participants successfully completed the program and were awarded certificates. More than just a training course, the workshop established a network connecting TDTU with the vocational education system, fostering the sharing of core values related to sustainable development.

The success of the workshop once again affirmed the reputation of CITT in training and technology transfer, while reinforcing TDTU’s position as a “leading pioneer” in promoting and realizing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in education in Vietnam.
