Ton Duc Thang University establishes the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer
On August 5, 2025, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held a Ceremony to announce and present the Decision on the establishment of the Center for Innovation and Technology Transfer (CITT), as well as the Decisions on the appointment of the CITT Director and Deputy Director.
The event was attended by Dr. Vu Anh Duc - Party Committee Secretary and Chairman of the University Council; Dr. Tran Trong Dao - Chairman of the Scientific and Training Council, President of TDTU; members of the University Leadership Board and heads of TDTU’s affiliated units.
In the context of the rapidly unfolding Fourth Industrial Revolution, innovation and technology transfer are playing an increasingly critical role in creating new value, enhancing productivity and strengthening national competitiveness. A modern university, in addition to its traditional roles of education and research, must also serve as a driving force for technological application, knowledge development, and support for enterprise innovation. The establishment of CITT at TDTU represents a strategic solution to concretize that role in practice.
In his address, Dr. Vu Anh Duc congratulated the University Leadership Board and the entire TDTU community on the establishment of the CITT - an event of great significance as the University is currently implementing the Politburo’s Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW. The establishment proposal received strong attention and support from the University Leadership and the internal units, and was thoroughly discussed and reviewed. Dr. Vu Anh Duc expressed his hope that the Leadership Board and all departments of the University would promptly implement and operate the Center effectively, contributing to the University’s innovation and technology transfer activities.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Tran Trong Dao noted that CITT is expected to connect research groups and academic faculties with enterprises and localities, foster the commercialization of scientific research outputs, incubate innovative ideas and contribute to the development of the University-wide startup ecosystem. According to Dr. Dao, this is a concrete action to implement the spirit of Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo, affirming that science, technology and innovation are the fastest and most sustainable paths to national prosperity. “I believe this is a concrete action through which we fulfill the role of a university in response to the Resolution 57-NQ/TW — that is, driving science and technology development and connecting scientists with enterprises and localities,” he said.
CITT is expected to act as the focal point for organizing, promoting and coordinating applied research, technology development, expert-enterprise connection, knowledge transfer, startup support and the creation of science and technology products that benefit society. The Center will also play an important role in building the University’s innovation ecosystem, developing R&D capacity, and strengthening linkages among the University, enterprises, government and society.
At the ceremony, as part of the appointment of leadership positions at unit level within TDTU, the University announced and presented the Decisions to appoint the Director and Deputy Director of CITT.
In response to Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation; Resolution No. 03/NQ-CP dated January 9, 2025 of the Government on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and digital transformation; the Action Program No. 63-CTrHĐ/TU dated February 27, 2025 of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; and Plan No. 1413 dated March 3, 2025 of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee - and with the orientation of becoming a research-oriented university closely linked with enterprise needs and national development - the establishment of CITT is an essential step to realize the University’s mission and strategic vision, enhance its contribution to national science and technology activities, promote socioeconomic development, and affirm the pioneering role of higher education institutions in the national innovation ecosystem.
In recent years, TDTU has implemented various initiatives to strengthen substantive and sustainable scientific research, such as establishing nine strong research groups and opening the Office of the Institute of Advanced Technology in Hanoi. The establishment of CITT is the next strategic step to enable TDTU to become a globally competitive research university, contribute to the transformation toward a knowledge- and innovation-based growth model in Viet Nam, and increase TDTU’s contribution to sustainable development at national, regional and global levels.
